WOW!! 500 LIKES and growing! AWESOME!!
I was recently nominated for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award by kalabalu, for which I thank her very much. I am truly honored. It was not expected as I have only been blogging for two months, although I have been writing for over 30 years. I’ve tried my hand at songwriting and poetry, but found I more enjoy the satire and short stories. One of these days I need to do more work on my short stories, plus work on my other blog site “The Family Xenormyn”.
Oddly enough, when I was in school I never liked to write essays, term papers, and such. It was my high school senior English teacher who once told me to keep up my wry sense of humor and I could go far. Well, I have not gone far, just cross country a few times, and visited Canada as well. (Yeah, I know that’s not what he meant.) He told me this after I passed the final exam by writing a term paper for which I was graded an A+. The topic was the media, up to that point in time. Each of us in the class had to select a part of the media to write about for their term paper. I decided to write about advertising; commercials to be specific. Both the serious ones and the humorous ones.
At that time the only library I had access to for any reference materials was the school’s. No, we did not have internet and Gurgle. It was barely a sparkle or thought in someone’s eyes back then. Well, maybe except for Al Gore’s. 😀 Anyways.. There were plenty of examples I was able to reference for the serious ads. Newspapers, news magazines, TV commercials, and such. But not as much for the humorous ones. For the humorous ones I took most of my examples from MAD® Magazine and similar publications. When it came to actually writing the text, there were no bibliographies or anything as such. As I mentioned, there were no books in the school’s library on the subject. It was all just from “the top of my head”, as the expression goes. And for my effort the teacher gave me a passing grade and made the wry humor remark .
That was what feels like a couple of hundred years ago now. And I still go by that advice. I like to take things literally. I do not see life through rose colored glasses (mine are plain clear lenses). Nor do I see the world as a bad place; but it can be better. It is something we all need to work on. And humor, in all its good forms, helps.
Keep up the good work, my friends, and let us all have a laugh at each other until it hurts and tears are streaming from our eyes. Laughter is the best medicine.
have a good one! 😀
